Brewer-Clifton Machado Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard wine sourced from 100% estate Pinot Noir grown in the Machado Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County, California. The 15-acre Machado parcel sits adjacent to the renowned Clos Pepe and Kessler-Haak vineyards, featuring rolling terrain with sandy clay loam soils and some of the most extreme diurnal temperature swings in the appellation.
Winemaker Greg Brewer employs whole-cluster fermentation and ages the wine exclusively in neutral oak barrels, allowing the fruit and terroir to express themselves fully. The wine displays aromas of raspberry, strawberry, spring flowers, forest floor, and a touch of seaside iodine, with deep black cherry, licorice, and black cardamom on the palate. It is medium-bodied with silky texture, penetrating acidity, and a long, ethereal finish. Approximately 675 cases are produced per vintage.
This bottling has received exceptional critical acclaim, earning 97 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 96 points from Wine Enthusiast, and 95 points from Robert Parker. The wine is crafted with the intention of aging and cellaring for at least 10 years and can be enjoyed after 15 years.
