Braida Montebruna is a Barbera d'Asti DOCG red wine crafted by the esteemed Giacomo Bologna estate (Braida) in Piedmont, Italy. Braida, founded in 1961 in the province of Asti, is credited with elevating Barbera d'Asti to international prominence. The Montebruna bottling is their flagship expression of the Barbera grape from the Monferrato hills southeast of Asti.
The wine presents a deep ruby red color with purple highlights and an inviting bouquet of black cherry, wildflowers, cinnamon, vanilla, and savory herbs. On the palate, it is round and fleshy with concentrated ripe red and blackberries, cola, cherry chocolate, dark licorice, and sweet spice. The wine is balanced by Barbera's natural bright acidity and a velvety, supple tannin structure leading to a lengthy finish. Alcohol content is approximately 14.5–15% ABV.
This wine pairs beautifully with pasta in tomato or meat sauces, grilled meats, aged cheeses, and cream-based dishes. It has received consistent critical acclaim with scores of 91–93 points from Wine Enthusiast, Vinous, Wine Advocate, and Falstaff Guide across recent vintages. Optimal drinking window is typically 3–12 years from vintage.
