Portia Roble is an approachable, fruit-forward red wine from Bodegas Portia, a modern winery established in 2010 by Grupo Faustino in the heart of the Ribera del Duero DO, Castilla y León, Spain. Crafted from 100% Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino), the grapes are sourced from vineyards sitting at approximately 850 meters elevation, some with vines aged 85–100 years, and harvested by hand. The wine is aged for 3–4 months in French oak barrels — a "Roble" classification, the entry-level DO tier that prioritizes fresh fruit expression over heavy wood influence.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright violet-red color with ruby highlights. The nose opens with aromas of ripe red and dark fruits — raspberry, pomegranate, black cherry, and blueberry — with notes of candied violet and subtle toasted oak. On the palate, expect flavors of blackberry, plum, milk chocolate, and clove, with well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a medium finish of baking spice and toastiness. The winery uses gravity-fed transport and small fermentation tanks to ensure gentle extraction and preserve aromatic freshness.
Portia Roble has earned consistent critical acclaim, including a 90-point "Best Buy" rating from Wine Enthusiast (2022 vintage), a 90-point score from James Suckling, and Gold and Grand Gold medals at the Berlin Wine Trophy. It pairs well with grilled and roasted meats, tapas, pasta, medium-aged cheeses, and mushroom dishes. Drink now or within a few years of vintage.
