Château Beychevelle is a prestigious Fourth Growth (Quatrième Grand Cru Classé) estate from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc, Bordeaux, France. The estate covers 250 hectares, with 90 hectares planted to vines, producing around 25,000 cases annually of its grand vin.
The wine is a classic Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 52%), complemented by Merlot (40%), Petit Verdot (5%), and Cabernet Franc (3%), though proportions shift slightly by vintage. Vinification takes place in 59 stainless steel vats of varying sizes, with malolactic fermentation occurring in both barrels and tanks. The wine is aged for approximately 18 months in roughly 70% new French oak barrels before bottling.
Tasting notes typically feature black currants, tobacco, cedar, dark fruits, and floral elements with silky, well-integrated tannins. The wine is known for its elegance, purity, and concentration. It is best enjoyed after 8 to 12 years of cellaring, with top vintages capable of aging gracefully for 25 to 40 years or more.
Over 35% of the estate's vineyards are farmed organically, and Château Beychevelle holds ISO 14001 environmental management certification. The estate's secondary wine, Amiral de Beychevelle, offers a more approachable, earlier-drinking expression of the terroir.
