Louis Latour's Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru "Sous le Puits" is a prestigious white Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune, crafted entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown in one of Puligny-Montrachet's acclaimed first-growth vineyard sites. The vineyard sits at the top of the hill of Blagny with a south-easterly exposure, situated near a natural spring — lending the wine its evocative name, "Sous le Puits" (Under the Well).
Vines averaging 35 years of age grow in clay and limestone soils, harvested by hand at yields of approximately 40 hl/ha. Fermentation takes place traditionally in oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation, followed by 8 to 10 months of aging in French oak barrels (50% new) from Louis Latour's own cooperage, medium toasted.
The wine displays a brilliant pale yellow color. The nose offers white peach and vanilla aromas, while the palate reveals marzipan and acacia honey with a very round, lingering finish and great elegance. The 2022 vintage earned 95/100 from James Suckling and 92/100 from Wine Spectator. Pairs beautifully with poultry, foie gras, salmon with fennel and lemon, and cheese. Cellaring potential of 5 to 7 years; best served at 12–14°C.
