Château Marquis de Terme is a Fourth Growth (Quatrième Cru Classé) Bordeaux wine from the prestigious Margaux appellation, classified in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate's history dates back to the 15th century, with its name established in 1762 by François de Peguilhan, Marquis de Terme. The property has been owned by the Seneclauze family since 1935.
The 40-hectare vineyard is planted to 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, grown on terroir of gravel, sand, limestone, and clay soils. The estate achieved organic certification in 2017. Vinification takes place in cement vats ranging from 80 to 250 hectoliters, and the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in a combination of 33% to 50% new French oak barrels along with concrete egg-shaped vats.
This full-bodied red wine is known for tasting notes of blackcurrants, plums, dark cherries, espresso, chocolate, violets, and spice, with silky, polished tannins. Best vintages include 2023, 2022, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, and 2015. Best served at 15.5°C (60°F) and pairs well with classic meat dishes, lamb, duck, game, Asian cuisine, and cheese. Young vintages benefit from 1-3 hours of decanting and typically reach peak maturity between 10-18 years of age.
