Langtry Tephra Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, structured red wine sourced from the historic Tephra Ridge Vineyard in Lake County, California. This 35-acre vineyard rises to 1,800 feet on the steep volcanic slopes of Howell Mountain, where thin, gravelly loam soils enriched with volcanic ash create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varietals — terroir that mirrors the finest appellations of France.
The wine is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, hand-harvested and aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (30% new). Extended maceration of 21 days on skins refines the tannin structure, yielding a rich, dense mouthfeel supported by fine-grained tannins. The bouquet opens with ripe red fruit, cherry, blackberry, sage, and warm baking spices, while the palate reveals layers of dark fruit, earthy undertones, and a mineral backbone reflecting the volcanic terroir. The finish is long and graceful, with lingering impressions of spice and fruit. The 2021 vintage received 93 Points from Wine Enthusiast as a Hidden Gem, with 13.5% alcohol by volume.
Langtry Farms traces its roots to the 1880s, when legendary actress Lillie Langtry first planted vines on these volcanic slopes — making this one of California's most storied wine estates.
