Nicolis Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is a prestigious Italian red wine from the Veneto region, crafted by Azienda Agricola Nicolis in the historic Valpolicella Classico zone. This full-bodied, dry red wine is made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, and Croatina grapes — the traditional varietals of the Amarone appellation — with an alcohol content of 15%.
The winemaking process follows the traditional appassimento method, in which harvested grapes are dried for three months in a "fruttaio" (a special drying room) before fermentation. Spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts takes place in steel tanks over 25 days during winter, followed by 30 months of aging in Slavonian oak barrels and an additional 6 months of bottle aging before release.
The wine presents a deep ruby red color transitioning to garnet tones. On the nose, it is complex, harmonious, and elegant with aromas of dried fruit, jam, underbrush, walnut husk, and leather. On the palate, it is balanced, rich, delicate, austere, and long-lasting with soft tannins and easy acidity. The wine has earned acclaim from critics including a 94-point score from James Suckling and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast.
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, and aged hard cheeses.
