La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2019 is the second label of the renowned Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, one of Saint-Julien's most prestigious estates in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France. The wine is crafted from parcels within the Ducru-Beaucaillou estate, whose name derives from the "beautiful pebbles" (beaux cailloux) — quartz-rich soils poor in nutrients that are ideal for producing fine wine.
The 2019 vintage is blended from approximately 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot Noir, and 4% Petit Verdot. It displays an opaque purple color with exuberant aromas of crushed cassis, blackberries, bing cherries, licorice, dark chocolate, and a hint of incense smoke. The full-bodied palate offers juicy, sweetly aromatic black fruit framed by finely grained, polished tannins and a tantalizing freshness, leading to a long, graphite-laced finish. Rated 96 points by James Suckling and 91+ by Robert Parker.
This wine is cellar-worthy and benefits from aging until at least 2028, with a drinking window that can extend 15 or more years from the vintage. It pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, game, and poultry dishes. Available as a single 750ml bottle or in cases of 12.
