Château La Garde is a prestigious red Bordeaux blend from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France. Owned by the Dourthe group since 1990, the estate dates back to at least 1732 and encompasses 54 hectares of vineyards with a terroir of gravel and clay soils. The red wine is a blend of approximately 62% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, vinified through whole-berry fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and aged 12 to 15 months in 35% new French oak barrels.
The wine delivers a seductive bouquet of ripe red and dark fruits, tobacco, smoke, cocoa, and earthy nuances characteristic of classic Pessac-Léognan. On the palate it is medium-bodied with polished, fine-grained tannins, a touch of espresso and spice, and an elegant, lingering finish. It is well-structured for aging and benefits from decanting for approximately one hour when young.
Château La Garde is best enjoyed after 3 to 6 years of bottle age and reaches peak maturity between 6 and 15 years from the vintage. It pairs excellently with classic meat dishes including beef, lamb, duck, and game, as well as mushrooms, hearty pasta, and aged cheeses. Serve at approximately 15.5°C (60°F).
