Château Cos Labory is a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) classified Bordeaux wine from the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation in the Médoc region of France. Originally classified in 1855, the estate sits on the famous Cos hill, directly adjacent to the renowned Château Cos d'Estournel.
The 18-hectare vineyard is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, with a small amount of Petit Verdot, on gravel and limestone soil with patches of clay. The wine is vinified in stainless steel vats and aged in approximately 40% new oak barrels, uniquely using a combination of both French and American oak. The estate produces around 8,000 cases per vintage.
Known for its fruity, Cabernet Sauvignon-forward character, Château Cos Labory offers characteristic Saint-Estèphe vigor and elegance with rich tannin content that provides good aging potential, typically best enjoyed within 10 to 18 years. In 2023, the estate was acquired by Michel Reybier, owner of Château Cos d'Estournel, and recent vintages from 2018 onward have shown a notable step up in quality. Best served at 60°F with classic meat dishes, game, roast chicken, Asian cuisine, or hearty fish courses like tuna.
