Giuseppe Campagnola Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico is a prestigious Italian red wine from the Valpolicella Classico zone in Verona, Veneto. Produced by Cantine Campagnola, one of the oldest and most respected wineries in the region, this wine embodies the traditional Amarone style with exceptional depth and complexity.
The wine is crafted from hand-picked Corvina Veronese and Corvinone Veronese (75%) and Rondinella (25%) grapes, sourced from select hillside vineyards in the Marano di Valpolicella valley, planted in calcareous soil at elevations of 200–350 meters above sea level. The bunches undergo the traditional appassimento drying process for approximately 100 days starting in late September, resulting in a natural weight loss of 35–40% that concentrates the sugars, flavors, and aromas. After soft pressing in December or January, the wine macerates on the skins for 30 days.
Ageing is split between large traditional oak barrels (60% for 24 months) and new French Allier oak barriques (40% for 18 months), followed by at least 6 months of bottle rest. The resulting wine pours a deep, bright ruby red with violet edges. On the nose it offers powerful, intense aromas of cherry, ripe plum, toasted almond, and vanilla. On the palate it is full-bodied with round, rich flavors and a long, complex finish. Alcohol content is 15.7% by volume.
Best enjoyed with game, roasted and grilled meats, full-flavored dishes, and well-matured cheeses. Serve at 17–18°C. The 2021 vintage received 92 points from James Suckling and 94 points from both Veronelli and Luca Maroni.
