Westland Distillery Solum is an American Single Malt Whiskey from Seattle, Washington, part of the distillery's prestigious Outpost Range. Sold at Costco as a case of six 700ml bottles, each bottled at 50% ABV, this is a landmark expression representing years of pioneering work to create the first-ever American peated malt entirely sourced and produced in the United States.

The barley for Solum is grown in Washington's Skagit Valley and malted at Skagit Valley Malting near Mount Vernon. The peat itself is harvested from a bog on Washington's Olympic Peninsula — a protected wetland worked in partnership with the landowner — giving this whiskey a flavor profile rooted entirely in Pacific Northwest terroir. Unlike Scottish or Irish peated whiskeys, the local peat is rich in botanicals such as Labrador Tea, an aromatic shrub unique to the region, producing an earthier, herbal peat character rather than briny or medicinal smoke. Westland ages Solum in a combination of used American oak and new oak casks to create balance while preserving the distinct character of the peated new-make spirit. Released annually in limited batches of approximately 15 casks, Solum won the Gold Medal and "Best American Single Malt" at the World Drinks Awards upon its debut in 2023.

On the nose, expect spiced apple and toasted oak with cinnamon, hints of cranberry, charred herbs, and smoked hickory. The palate delivers vibrant peat and smoky charred herbs alongside earthen coffee grounds and oaken vanilla. The finish lingers with honey and floral tea, vegetal peat, buttered rye bread, and savory woody spices. Master Blender Shane Armstrong describes the character as trending toward "the earthier end of peat, moss and sage, with lighter charred wood notes," contrasting the medicinal and overt wood smoke found in other peated whiskies. Tasters also note sourdough, candied ginger, and a subtle menthol quality that speaks to the unique Pacific Northwest peat composition.
