Château Clinet 2021 is a prestigious red wine from the Pomerol appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, France, crafted under the direction of winemaker Ronan Laborde. The 2021 vintage is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon — the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend since at least the 1980s — sourced from approximately 10 hectares of vines averaging 40 years of age.
The estate's terroir on the celebrated Pomerol plateau is defined by a distinctive mix of gravel, clay, and iron-rich deposits known as "crasse de fer," which contribute minerality, complexity, and structure to the wine. Neighboring estates include the legendary Pétrus and Vieux Château Certan. Château Clinet's history traces back to the 16th century and has been owned by the Laborde family since 1998.
The 2021 vintage presents a deep purple color with aromas of blueberries, blackberries, violets, and minty herbs. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavors of dark berries, baking chocolate, sour cherry, liquorice, menthol, and spice. The finish is long and persistent with subtle oak integration. Critics have praised this vintage highly: Decanter awarded 95 points, Vinous 94 points, Jane Anson 94 points, and Jeb Dunnuck 93–96 points. Approximately 45,000 bottles were produced. The wine will drink well upon release and has the structure to evolve for 20 or more years.
