Calicem is the flagship wine of Couvent des Jacobins, a Grand Cru Classé estate in Saint-Émilion with roots dating to the 14th century. This exceptional Bordeaux is crafted from 100% Merlot sourced from a single 0.7-hectare parcel of old vines planted in 1961, representing the estate's most prized terroir on the southwest slope of Saint-Émilion above pure limestone soils.

The wine is vinified in upright barrels and aged 18 to 24 months in 500-liter French oak barrels using biodynamic farming practices. Production is extremely limited, with fewer than 250 cases produced per vintage. The 2022 vintage earned exceptional critical acclaim, including 96 points from James Suckling, who called it "simply delicious" and praised its "innate balance," 94 points from both Wine Advocate and The Wine Independent, and 93 points from Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the wine opens with aromas of plum preserves, juicy blueberries, kirsch, Indian spices, and hints of unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate is plush and velvety with seamless acidity, chalky tannins, and a long, fragrant finish. Drink now or hold for further development.
