Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a prestigious Fifth Growth estate in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. Classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate sits on a prominent hillock above the village of Bages and has been producing wine since the 1500s. The 55-hectare vineyard is planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc on terroir consisting of gravel, large pebbles, and stones over a bed of limestone.
Currently owned and managed by François-Xavier Borie and his daughter Emeline, Grand-Puy-Lacoste is known for its classic, age-worthy Pauillac style. The wine is full-bodied, tannic, and concentrated, offering characteristic aromas of cassis, cedar, tobacco, cigar box, and truffle. It is aged in 70% new French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. The estate is widely regarded as outperforming its Fifth Growth classification, offering exceptional value among Pauillac producers.
Best served at 15.5°C (60°F), this wine pairs well with veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, grilled dishes, Asian cuisine, mushrooms, pasta, and cheeses. Young vintages benefit from 2 to 4 hours of decanting, with peak maturity typically reached between 12 and 35 years after the vintage.
