Château La Conseillante is one of Pomerol's most celebrated estates, situated on the eastern plateau of the appellation adjacent to L'Évangile and near Pétrus. Founded in 1756 and acquired by the Nicolas family in 1871, the estate has been family-owned for five generations. This listing is for a 3-liter double magnum format, ideal for aging and special occasions.
The estate farms approximately 12 hectares across 16 individually managed plots, planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc on soils of grey clay, sandy gravel, and pockets of iron-rich and blue clay. Vinification takes place in 22 concrete aerial vats — one per plot — allowing precise parcel-by-parcel winemaking. The wine is aged for 18 months in 70% new French oak barrels, 27% second-fill barrels, and 3% amphoras.
Château La Conseillante is renowned for its elegant, silky style with aromas of violets, peony, red berries, plum, and spice, developing into notes of black truffle and chocolate with age. The palate is creamy and refined with velvety tannins and exceptional freshness. Top vintages regularly receive scores of 96–100 points from leading critics. The wine has an aging potential of 10 to 35 years, and large-format bottles such as this double magnum age even more slowly and gracefully than standard 750ml bottles. Annual production is approximately 3,500–4,500 cases of the Grand Vin.
