Château Faugères is a prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, France, with roots tracing back to 1619. The property spans 49 hectares of clay and limestone soils, planted predominantly to 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines averaging 35 years in age. Owned since 2005 by Swiss businessman Silvio Denz, the estate underwent a complete modernization including a striking winery designed by architect Mario Botta, and employs sustainable farming practices with ISO 14001 environmental certification.
The wine is made using whole-berry fermentation after a five-day cold soak, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak. It is then aged for 14 months in 50% new French oak and 50% once-used French oak barrels, producing a rich, structured wine with excellent aging potential of 8–20 years. Recent vintages have earned 94-point scores from critics.
Deep, dark purple-ruby in color, the wine opens with aromas of ripe black plum, boysenberry, damson fruit, and chocolate. On the palate it is rich and full-flavored with lavender, spice, menthol, licorice, and mocha notes leading to a textured, persistent finish balanced by fine acidity and freshness.
