Giuseppe Nada's "Casot" is a celebrated single-vineyard Barbaresco DOCG from the village of Treiso in Piedmont, Italy. The Casot cru encompasses 3.5 hectares of Nebbiolo vines planted between 1960 and 2012, oriented southwest at 350 meters elevation. The Nada family has been growing grapes in this region since 1900, and has produced estate wine since 1964. Current winemaker Enrico Nada employs certified organic farming practices and a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar.
The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel followed by an extended 65-day maceration on the skins. It is aged for two years — the first in 1,000-liter botticelle and the second in 3,000-liter botti — then rests an additional six months in bottle before release. This extended aging regime yields a wine of impressive structure and longevity, best from 2026 through 2042 according to Wine Spectator.
On the nose, the Casot opens with aromas of forest floor, new leather, pressed rose, wild berry, and spice. The palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, orange peel, licorice, and mint, supported by fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Wine Enthusiast awarded the 2020 vintage 95 points; Wine Spectator awarded it 93 points. Sold in cases of 12 x 750ml.
